Terms of Service
futureland.today is a hobbyist bulletin board system run by HM Derdoc for fun, in spare time, at personal expense. These terms are the house rules. By connecting to the system, through the web, a terminal or any other way, you agree to them.

Accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old to register.
- One account per person. Do not create accounts for other people, and do not share your password. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
- Choose a handle that does not impersonate another person, the sysop, or a well known system, and that is not abusive. Handles that cause confusion may be changed.
- Use a password you do not use elsewhere. The Privacy Policy explains why.
Conduct
Be the kind of caller you would want to share a board with. In particular, do not:
- Harass, threaten, demean or stalk anyone, or post hateful content aimed at people for who they are.
- Post anything illegal where you are or where this system is, including content that sexualises minors, or anything that violates someone else's rights.
- Post other people's private information, or your own if you would regret it.
- Spam, flood, advertise, or run unsolicited bots in the chat rooms or message areas.
- Try to break in, guess passwords, probe for weaknesses, scrape the site or its programming interfaces at volume, attack other systems from here, or interfere with anyone else's use of the system.
- Upload malware or deliberately broken files.
- Evade a ban, a snooze or any other moderation decision.
Your content
You keep whatever rights you have in what you post. By posting it you give futureland.today permission to store it, show it to other users and visitors, make it searchable, keep it in backups, and relay it through the chat and message networks the area belongs to. This permission is needed to run a BBS and lasts for as long as the content is on the system or in a network we have already relayed it to. Only post what you have the right to post.
Music, art, articles and other original works published here by their authors remain theirs. Unless a work says otherwise, you may enjoy it here but need the author's permission to reuse it.
Networked areas
Many message areas and chat rooms are shared with other systems. Posts made in them are copied to other computers the moment they are sent and cannot be withdrawn. Each network has its own rules and moderators, and conduct that breaks a network's rules can get this whole system cut off, so network rules are enforced here too. When you turn on a bridged chat network in Settings, you are also a guest on that network and bound by its rules.
Files and uploads
Upload only files you are allowed to distribute. Pirated software, copyrighted media you do not have rights to, and anything else that would get the sysop a takedown notice will be removed, and repeat offenders lose upload access. If you own the rights to something posted here without permission, contact the sysop with a link and a description and it will be dealt with promptly.
Games, points and tokens
Door games, leaderboards, points and in-game items are for entertainment. Scores and points may be reset, rebalanced or removed when a game changes, breaks or is retired. Some activities award BBS Tokens, which are recorded on a public blockchain. They are a community reward, not an investment or a currency; we make no promise about their value, that they can be exchanged for anything, or that the scheme will continue. The way tokens are earned, held or distributed may change, and anyone found gaming the rules forfeits them. Nobody from this system will ever ask you for a wallet seed phrase or private key.
Moderation
The sysop and any co-sysops may edit, move, hide or delete content, change handles, limit features, snooze or silence a user system-wide, suspend or delete accounts, and block addresses, with or without warning, when they judge it necessary to keep the board healthy. Decisions are made in good faith and can be appealed by writing to the sysop, but the final call is the sysop's. Accounts may also be removed for long inactivity.
Technical limits
Do not use automated tools against the system except where a feature invites it (such as a terminal program, a QWK reader or an RSS reader). Keep to one or two simultaneous connections. Unusual load, repeated failed log-ons and scanning are treated as abuse and may be blocked automatically.
Availability
This is a hobby system. It may be slow, go down, lose data, change without notice or disappear entirely. Keep your own copies of anything you care about. There are no fees, no subscriptions and no service levels.
No warranty, limited liability
The system and everything on it is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. Content posted by users and by other systems in a network is theirs, not ours, and we do not vet it. To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the system or from anything found on it. If you cause the operator loss by breaking these terms, you agree to make it good.
Changes and contact
These terms may be updated; the current version is always at this address with its effective date, and continuing to use the system after a change means you accept it. Questions go to the sysop by BBS mail, or by email to sysop@futureland.today.
