I am thinking should we have a trashcan file that censors certain
words if people dont know how to wash their mouths
    with soap?

    How very America of you.

Part of me wants to agree with you, but then another part reads the news about what the EU and UK are up to regarding similar topics and I quickly realize it very much is not just us.

Why can't american's leave free speach alone? You guys are always wanting to censor things. Why?

Free speech and some words here and there is one thing, but I think when a user crosses over into being a bully or harassing other members, etc., then it may be some time for some moderation.

I was not picking a fight, nor trolling. Simply attempting to have
a conversation on a platform designed for it. I have learned my lesson
and accept my question was somehow insulting to people and while I will
not apologize, I will accept it.

    Hey bud, that's all I'm doing :)

also genuinely curious when people think online forums should be basically a wild west free-for-all and allow that kind of thing.

I guess I fall into that category. However, I think the "moderation"
should be a setting each user has to enable. ie: I don't like reading messages from some people in fsx. Instead of asking for a ban, I just
    skip the message / thread.

I think I fall into this one also. If they get real bad, i.e. difficult to ignore, I can always put them in the twitlist file and be done with them.

That's the kind of thing that drives people away, which is the
opposite of what I think we want in a public forum. It's not about "burning books" or anything like that, but not putting up with people
being bullies & trolls, etc., doing things that drive people away.

Which is your choice and I accept it, HOWEVER why are you able to choose
what I can see on my system? I want all the crazy to come through so I
can use my ">" button to skip the message.
