• Mystic polling on a pi

From ogg@21:2/147 to deon on Sun Nov 16 17:25:31 2025
I'm wondering if the address they are connecting to could be the problem

    (n3.z21.bbs.dege.au)? Only a guess.

I dont think so, that's what everybody else uses:

    $ host n3.z21.bbs.dege.au
n3.z21.bbs.dege.au is an alias for clrghouz.bbs.dege.au. clrghouz.bbs.dege.au is an alias for ip4.bbs.dege.au.
    ip4.bbs.dege.au has address 139.99.135.199

If other people are using it, then I'm out of ideas. Sorry!

    Howdy,

Like freq was having issues polling on his Pi, I have another new user with the same issue.

    --------------------- POLL v1.12 A48 2023/01/15 Sun, Nov 16 2025 (loglevel 3) + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 Polling all nodes of session type ALL
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 Queued 1 files (896 bytes) for 21:3/100
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 1-Polling 21:3/100 on slot 1 via BINKP
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 1-DEBUG ConnectMode=0
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 1-Connecting to n3.z21.bbs.dege.au on port 24554
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:15 Polled 1 systems

This is the extent of their log - and there is no connection attempt made.

Any tips for carlos and freq on this?

Otherwise maybe they should use binkd?

I also change the address to ip:139.99.135.199, same result.
-- SMTP client. No sending of internet emails.

The rest were pretty much answered by someone else. The SMTP client is not like Synchronets where you can send emails in and out of Mystic, it is set up so you can download your email using a front end like Outlook. Like someone else said port 25 is blocked by most carriers, I use 2500 and 1100 for pop3.. Works great for me getting my BBS email on my phone. If it is a new user I can then if I want login in to my config and up their access if they didn't pass through the email check of their email address they gave. Hope that helps a little bit..

Those two events are off. I can't use the semaphore tricks simply because the MIS POLL don't work. It don't connect to the node HUB.
This is why i have to use Binkd for that.

I tested changing "MIS POLL SEND" with Binkd in the command line
but it is never executed. I think linux don't like the"|" to separate
    the two commands.

Okay. Use whatever works for you then. If I remember right, you came here asking questions about Mystic, and before anyone was able to answer them you had already switched software.

I tested changing "MIS POLL SEND" with Binkd in the command line
but it is never executed. I think linux don't like the"|" to separate
    the two commands.

The two commands are separated with "|" in Mystic's configuration, not on the Linux command line. It is a specific feature of Mystic that you can stack commands in the config to do more than one thing. This has nothing to do with Linux, as it can also be done in the Windows version of Mystic.

Please don't think I'm blowing smoke up your ass or anything. I've been a Mystic alpha/beta tester for 20+ years, and while not public, still have a running instance in a separate VM. Every configuration option I've shown you have been directly from my system, running on 64bit Linux - and everything works as expected.

So, if your settings are correct, then it could very well be problem(s) with the Pi version of Mystic. You could try your exact settings on another OS and see if it still doesn't work (if it still doesn't, it's probably misconfigured).

You can confirm any of this by reading 'whatsnew.txt' in the 'docs' directory, or having a look at the Mystic wiki.

Same problem here. Also sometimes ignores stacked commands. Turning on
the ./ prefix doesn't work. I just put it in the command line. Also
the node setup ignores whats in the echomail in and out folder setting
    and uses the default.

I've today edited the "event.dat" file in data DIR with an HEX editor and delete all old caracters from the older command. Lets see if this work.

A bug that a have but now it seen to be OK, is on "message Base Editor"
on echomail Bases the option "Export To" lost this setting and
goes to "0 node". I've to verify (various times) all echomail Bases to see
is this setting is good to "1 node".

I believe that usually happens if you don't restart the MIS server after you exit the configuration.

The problem is, Mystic/MIS doesn't tell you when this needs to be done (it probably should), and doesn't /always/ require it. So, the "recommendation" has always been that whenever you make changes in Mystic's configuration, you should restart MIS afterwards.

Using "./" assumes that the execution is done in Mystic's root directory, or the executable is available in your PATH. You're better off just pointing directly to what you're trying to execute, always.

the node setup ignores whats in the echomail in and out folder setting
    and uses the default.

When making configuration changes, make sure to restart MIS afterwards, or your changes will not always take effect.

    lost this setting

Most likely because MIS wasn't restarted when these were changed/added.

Yeah, in such cases it's usually good to try to figure out what's wrong
in the setup, ask for help if needed, and try to fix things..

I backup my Syncronet files. Maybe i can look again the software.

Synchronet requires prerequisites. If you missed any of those, it won't install. Otherwise, if you follow the wiki for installing on Linux, it compiles just fine on just about anything.

Now, my Mystic is tweated a lot, many hrs lost on that.
Difficult to me to restart again from 0.

I see some Mystic BBS on Pi.But, or they don't use echomail messages, or they use a old dated msgs Base. Is difficult to see if the MIS Polling
is working for they on PI.

You could always try to contact them personally and ask them.

But, i'm happy, i found a way to get this working for me! :-)

Yes. Great news that you got it to work. ;)

Make sure the BBS is down when you make changes like this. I know, it's annoying lol.
