because no one else does. Its a very simple concept. Delta Chat uses
your existing IMAP based email server, even something like gmail, to
store and send your IM. The chats are stored in an encrypted folder in
your email server in which only the Delta Chat app can read. It seems to
me would be a great way to decentralize instant messaging without
re-inventing the wheel, as email servers are a dime a dozen. Has anyone
here ever taken a look at Delta Chat, any thoughts?
I did not seem to get neoshock's original post, btw.
I had not heard of it, before this, and now am wondering if I could make
it work with MxRoute's servers.
I'd recommend you use a new email address for deltachat.
Initially, I was using it with an existing email address that
everyone else knows. Managing the app and keeping the
deltachat messages from downloading off the servers *BEFORE* I
remembered to run the deltahat app was fraught with error.
Though then I might start using more space on there than I should.
deltachat is afterall "chat via email". I wouldn't use it to
keep something on the system in perpetuity.
I'd use Session's "Note to Self" for really private stuff like
a pw string, or even Telegram's "Saved messages" or the odd
personal note.
But it would be nice, and I suppose messaging is one place
where I might be able to convince a person or two that I
chat with a lot.
The key is privacy and "for your eyes only". Session, Jami,
Briar, and Simplex are excellent for that.
