Though I still drank things; just that my idea of drinking is to have enough sips to review the wine, and then have someone else finish off
the other 2/3rds of my tasting portion.

My mother's upbringing of "clean your plate!" apparently extended to
"finish your wine!" in my mind. I learned some time ago that it's OK to
pour the remainder out after a taste -- also, after 3 or 4 full tastes,
my palate is gone and they all taste the same.

    Hi, pF.

I don't remember my parents ever really drinking wine when I was a kid and it took me until my 40s to even remotely enjoy it myself.

A couple of years ago we went on holiday with my parents and my brother's family - my parents are odd, while my brother and I rarely see eye to eye on anything. By early evening each day my brain would be cooked so the wife and I would go for a quiet glass of wine down at the far end of the garden. What made me laugh was that my mum saw what we were up to and started to join us, occasionally staying around for a top-up. She evidently finds our family as taxing as I do :)

During the lockdown in 2020, two of my neighbors started having evening
wine on their respective porches, suitably distanced. I stopped with my
dog (having a dog to walk during the lockdown was a godsend...) and
chatted with them on my way. After a while, they'd put a glass of wine
on the mailboxes between them and I'd enjoy a glass with them.
