it's a much nicer place with less bots. i'm not a fan of the format but i check in every once in a while. each time it's a huge improvement.

well twitter was a liberal echo chamber so when elon bought it he exposed their practices. the people that left and encouraged everyone else to leave didn't like elon.

i find this strange because i think we can all agree that nobody likes zuckerberg and what he's done over the years. these same people use facebook with abandonment.

the only difference is zuckerberg is an asshole who keeps a low profile.
elon is an ahole who doesnt.

I don't know about this 'SafeSpace' business, but I've certainly found BSky to have a better signal-to-noise ratio than Twitter.

Twitter is still a vaguely useful source of commentary on general interest/current affair type discussion, The community notes feature has helped immensely with the quality of information that propagates there.

For niche interest discussions, BSky and Mastodon are less noisy, and don't try so corral you towards the algorithm-generated feed, over a chronological list of posts from people you follow.

The true cesspool is Instagram's "Threads" app, overflowing with low quality copy-pasted rage-bait/engagement-farming nonsense. Almost like its algorithm celebrates mediocrity! "Someone explain to me why people reverse in to parking spots!" is not front page material, not the first time, not the 99th time today.

I dont use x/twitter much so i see posts from people i follow.

i rarely use bluesky so it shows me a bunch of bluesky junk.

That's not what I meant. Twitter has a "for.you" feed, which uses the algorithm to (poorly) try to show you what it thinks you are interested in, that is true.

But Twitter also has a "latest" feed, which is meant to be only a chronological display of posts from people you follow.

But for a long time, if you refreshed the page while viewing the latter, it would silently switch back to the former. On the mobile app it also appends "you may also like" posts to the end of discussion threads. Both designed to show you more monetised posts, even if you are not interested.

Mastodon doesnt do this at all, and BSky respects your settings.

If you avoid politics, BlueSky is actually more active in science/bbs/ansi/etc. I'm on both and use both for different reasons.

I had to reset my password for x it had been so long since I logged in I forgot it. The Ad Blocker was a great idea. Thank you. Nothing to see there really. Lot of my followers I picked up appear to be busty young women. I am popular again... hooray.
